Centrally located on the U.S. East Coast, Virginia Beach is situated in the southeastern corner, where the state of Virginia meets the sea. This popular resort city is just three and a half hours south of Washington, D.C. and within a short driving distance to most U.S. cities, making it the perfect destination for one-third of the U.S. population. Virginia Beach has miles of beaches and hundreds of hotels, motels, and restaurants along its oceanfront. It is also home to several state parks, several long protected beach areas, and two universities. It was the site of the first landing of English colonists bound for Jamestown.
