The Alexander Technique is - very much simplified - a method for good posture, optimal movements and adequate reaction. It has been taught for the last 100 years.
In Alexander Technique lessons clients learn to notice negative movement habits. They are then dealt with in a conscious way. Clients feel lighter by moving in a slightly different than usual way. This happens in most cases already in the first lesson. This happens because less muscle power is employed which is why the Alexander Technique is said to foster efficient movement.
