School Time Phonics Program

Outcomes For the student who is reading at 1-2 grade levels below grade, there should be significant gains of at least a grade level within 4-6 weeks. Assessment The two assessments (vowels and consonants) should be used before beginning the lessons to individualize the learning process within the program. The same assessments may be given at completion of the program as a post-test if desired.

Day 1 Take the assessments found on Disk 1 on vowels and consonants. The reports on the assessments then may be printed and transfered by hand to the "Student Record Sheet" included in the program, giving a prescription for the lessons the students needs to master. Day 2 Begin work on the first 1-2 lessons (if the assessment was not used), or begin with the first lesson in the student''''s prescribed learning path from the assessment/Student Record Sheet. Each lesson is approximately 20 minutes in length and includes a phonics tutorial, extended learning exercises and fun activities to reinforce the material learned. A report should be printed after each lesson is completed and the scores transfered to the Student Record Sheet by hand. Days 3-5 Continue to progress through the student''''s prescription or the sequential lessons on the disks in a self-paced manner. Print lesson reports as the lessons are completed. By the end of the week, working for 20-30 minutes each day, the student should have completed the assessments and at least four (4) lessons. Beyond Week 1 Working in the above manner, it should take the average student no more than six weeks to complete the phonics course and be on the way to better reading.
