This course demonstrates the process of writing a resume that will result in an interview.
Designed for anyone who needs a resume, this course will guide students through the process. An overview of resumes including their use, what potential employers look for and styles will be discussed. Comparisons between the job market and individual goals will be made and applied to the process. A completed resume will be the final product of this course.

Resume Writing
Outcomes
A. The student demonstrates his or her understanding of the resume process by developing a job goal and outlining an information sheet of their background based upon their job goal. B. The student will submit a completed and polished resume.
Assessment
A. Recognize the differences in resume styles and to understand what information goes on each. Students will be able to choose the correct style for them. B. To be able to determine pertinent and extraneous information. C. To be able to gear the resume toward their goals.
Week 1

Week 3
In the first week, the importance of defining individual goals will be discussed and made. Students will also learn the different styles of resumes (functional, chronological, combination and curriculum vitae). A determination of a match between styles, goals and job market will be made. Assignment # 1: Students will outline their education, work and personal history. They will investigate the job market in their area and develop a job goal.
We will discuss the various headings and the information that goes under each one. Students will determine what is pertinent about their background, according to their goals, to put on the resume. They will learn to write their resume in the "assumed I" voice and to use action words. Assignment # 2: Students will write their resumes.
A discussion about the resume writing process and a critique will provide insight into the understanding students have gained. Guidelines on how to post an on-line resume and to submit paper copy will be given as well as suggestions on paper type and color and fonts.
