How to Write Short, Short Fiction
Outcomes
NOTE: This is a self-directed course. Students will receive feedback on the final week`s assignment. Exercises completed before that week will be used to tailor the course to the student`s needs but will not receive individual feedback. Assessment takes place in the form of facilitator feedback on a final written assignment. Students wishing to submit for publication can also submit the names of three potential markets.
Assessment
Students will be able to identify aspects of what makes short fiction different and the same as regular length fiction pieces. They will focus on their subject interests and complete a short piece of fiction. Students will also look at potential locations for publication and identify markets.

Students look at various pieces of short, short fiction and learn to identify the traits of good short fiction.
Students learn the various forms of short fiction.
Students identify topics that appeal to them. During this week, students will also write a short piece of fiction for critique in the final week. Students wishing to submit for publication will also work at identifying several potential markets for publication.
Students submit their piece of short fiction for critique and feedback. Students seeking publication also submit potential markets.
