| Explores folktale formulae and types, compares fables, myths, legends, tall tales, and epics, and differentiates between fantasy and science fiction. Also, the genre of realistic fiction is investigated. |

Students will be able to: * Explore folktale formula and types. * Compare fables, myths, legends, tall tales, and epics. * Understand that fantasy is made up of elements that do not exist outside the imagination. * Associate science fiction with scientific and technological knowledge, especially space travel. * Explore the genre of realistic fiction. * Use information to teach with literature. * Analyze the elements needed to evaluate information and biography books. * Examine the forms of biography. * Examine the history of children’s book publishing and also censorship. This course is designed as one credit hour or 15 hours of professional development. Check with the institution to be sure if credit is offered for this course. |

The student will take an objective-based post exam consisting of 10 to 15 multiple choice and true or false questions. A score of 85% or higher is considered successful completion of the course. |
