Tool 1: The Hammer helps the learner "hammer out" or form his/her path to successful free-lance writing by:
·Assessing writing strengths and weaknesses.
·Determining goals, ambitions, and aptitude for free-lancing.
Week 2
Tool 2: The Nails help the learner "nail down" and define his/her target market by:
·Marketing him/herself as a free-lancer: Cultivating prospects, defining, and contacting key people at target companies.
·Developing an impressive portfolio.
Week 3
Tool 3:The Nuts and Bolts provide the learner with free-lance writing skill development through:
·Comparing and contrasting the various forms of written communications used in free-lance writing.
·Providing the learner with a checklist of basic journalism skills and aids required for written communications
·Comparing graphic, print, and audio visual production.
Week 4
Tool 4: The Compass gives advice to the learner in navigating through the details of contract negotiations including:
·Bidding
·Understanding the approval process
·Determining hourly rates or set fees
·"Spec" projects
·Writing Contracts
·Invoicing
Tool Five: The Flashlight provides the learner with insight into avoiding common free-lance stumbling blocks such as:
·Assessing and gaining freedom to design, write, style, and create with the client''''''''''''''''s voice in mind.
·Encouraging input from and determining availability of "key resources."
·Retaining confidentiality and accessing "sensitive material."

Tool Six: The level provides advice for the learner to keep his/her business in balance so that a continuous stream of clients and prospects are maintained.
