This is an intense course designed to teach you the basics of building your own Internet business. If you think putting up a web site is all you need to do, you are DEAD WRONG! By taking this course you will learn how to control all of the costs associated with starting an Internet business because you will be taught all of the language and technological information you need to make sound, informed and educated business decisions. Taught by April M. Adams founder of Borderinfogrp.com, you will learn everything you need to learn about how to start, build, manage and market an Internet business. This includes the terminologies used by programmers, web design and web hosting firms. You will learn how to layout a web site, market your site and how to manage the sales data and accounting information. You will be given weekly assignments requiring you to study six to twelve hours per week. You will also be required to purchase and read one essential reference book. The end result will be complete knowledge of how to run your own business on-line with confidence!

Outcomes:

1. Student will be familiar with all terminologies related to running an Internet business. 2. Student will be aware of what causes transactions to occur on a web site. 3. Student will have learned basic HTML. 4. Student will have learned how to upload files onto a remote server. 5. Student will learn how to set up financial documents to support the business. 6. Student will have created substantial content for theoretical web site. 7. Student will have found a web design, hosting and commercial banking company. 8. Student will learn how to register with search engines. 9. Student will have created an e-newsletter.

Assessment:

1. Student will have a mock/demo web site. 2. Student will have Meta tags in uploaded home page. 3. Student will have accounting and product data file. 4. Student will provide report of reference book. 5. Student will have signed up for newsletter and created first newsletter.

Take on line HTML tutorials 1 – 2.
Week 2 Take on-line HTML tutorials 3 – 6

Download 30 day trail version of FTP software.

Read first five chapters of reference book.

Start designing site map/home page.

Find what organization you will establish merchant account with and e-mail instructor logic behind the choice and costs associated with establishing this account.

Create expenses worksheet in “Excel” to track budgeted and actual expenses.

Download QuickBooks demo.

Find fulfillment source if selling tangible products
Week 3 Take on-line HTML tutorials 7 – 10.

Find your web hosting company and detail expenses associated. Send e-mail to instructor why you are choosing this particular organization and detail the costs associated.

Find your web design company and detail expenses associated. Send e-mail to instructor why you are choosing this particular organization and detail the costs associated.

Finish reference book and submit report of ten most important things learned.

Upload first draft version of home page.

Submit your draft version of web site Map/Design. If you have HTML version, upload URL and e-mail URL to instructor. Regardless, student must upload a home page.
Week 4 Create Privacy Policy

Create F.A.Q’s.

Create International Shipping Policies

Create any other necessary on-line instructions

Create Quickbooks files with ten inventory items.

Sign up for secured socket layer.

E-mail all of these to instructor or upload to temporary web site if done in HTML.
Week 5 Create Meta Tags for home page.

Choose key phrases for search engine submission. E-mail phrase to instructor.

Register web site with all search engines. Submit to instructor itemized cost of initial and monthly submitting.

Sign up for your own automated newsletter service.

Create first newsletter.

Create on-line and off-line marketing campaigns.

Submit final version of site map and/or web site to instructor for review. If home page is done in HTML upload and confirm uploading to instructor via e-mail.
