| Explores ideas to ensure successful communication between teachers and parents of children with disabilities. How parents react upon learning their child has a disability is also researched. |

Students will be able to describe research on parent involvement: * Listening and conferencing techniques * Organizations for involving parents * Parent-to-parent education services Students will be able to describe and apply strategies for: * Developing quality listening and conferencing programs * Developing a referral system for parents through organizations This course is designed as one credit hour or 15 hours of professional development. Check with the institution to be sure if credit is offered for this course. * Matching parents with other parents |

The student will take an objective-based post exam consisting of 10 to 15 multiple choice and true or false questions. A score of 85% or higher is considered successful completion of the course. |
