| Explores the models for behavior change in students with learning and behavior disorders. Subjects consist of single-subject research designs, reinforcement program, cognitive behavioral procedures, and development of social competence. Ethical and legal considerations are also surveyed. |

Students will be able to: * Learn various single-subject research designs: A-B; reversal; alternating treatments; changing criterion; and multiple baseline across students, behaviors, and settings. * Describe behavioral strategies to increase appropriate behaviors. * Develop various schedules of reinforcement to effectively reinforce a target behavior. * Dscribe the underlying basic assumptions on which cognitive behavioral interventions are based. * To examine the usefulness of cognitive behavioral intervention strategies. * Define social competence and develop a plan for providing social skills training to students who demonstrate social skills deficits. * Examine the role of a teacher and the ethical use of behavior management. * Explain how collaboration with parents is planned. * Describe the steps needed for due process. This course is designed as one credit hour or 15 hours of professional development. Check with the institution to be sure if credit is offered for this course. |
| The student will take an objective-based post exam consisting of 10 to 15 multiple choice and true or false questions. A score of 85% or higher is considered successful completion of the course. |
