| Provides knowledge of the history, laws, and trends in special education, including procedural rights of students with disabilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and federal and state regulations. |

Students will be able to: * Identify historical developments in special education. * Explore the litigation and legislation that have been responsible for the provision of services to handicapped children. * Learn the three major laws pertaining to special education. * Be familiar with the current trends of inclusion and diversity issues in special education. This course is designed as one credit hour or 15 hours of professional development. Check with the institution to be sure if credit is offered for this course. |

The student will take an objective-based post exam consisting of 10 to 15 multiple choice and true or false questions. A score of 85% or higher is considered successful completion of the course. |
