| Presents an overview of autism and mental retardation, including definitions and characteristics. Etiology, incidence rates, levels of severity and delivery models will also be explored. |

Students will be able to: * Explain the definitions and characteristics of autism. * Explain the definitions and characteristics of intellectual disabilities and developmental delays. This course is designed as one credit hour or 15 hours of professional development. Check with the institution to be sure if credit is offered for this course. |
| The student will take an objective-based post exam consisting of 10 to 15 multiple choice and true or false questions. A score of 85% or higher is considered successful completion of the course. |
