Full Description
This course is for both technical and non-technical professionals who will need to gather and write business and technical requirements for the purposes of systems analysis and eventual systems design and implementation.

Modules covered include:

·Introduction to Requirements Writing and Writing Tips
·Interviewing the Users
·Writing the Statement of Work
·Writing the Business Requirements Definition
·Writing the Operational Concepts Definition
·Writing the Systems Requirements Specifications


Outcomes:
The instructor will review all documents and provide written feedback. There will also be short quizzes on specific material in the book. The book will be used as a reference book for these quizzes, and hopefully later on for you in the work place.

At the completion of this course, the student will have produced the following documentation:
Writing the Statement of Work
Writing the Business Requirements Definition
Writing the Operational Concepts Definition
Writing the Systems Requirements Specifications
This course is offered as an advanced technical writing course.

Week 1
Introduction to Requirements Writing and Writing Tips
This module describes the requirements writing process, the difference between the different documents, and some tips for effective requirements writing.
Week 2
Interviewing the Users
This module covers the value of interviewing the user and how to best question your user to write effectively. In the event that you are the actual user, you will learn how to best distill your knowledge so you can write better requirements.
Week 3
Writing the Statement of Work
This module provides real-world examples of the SOW, and allows you the opportunity to write one. Your SOW will be the basis for the other documents that you create in this course.
Week 4
Writing the Business Requirements Definition
This module teaches you how to effectively write a BRD - the actual business need that is the driver for your other requirements.
Real-world examples are provided.
Week 5
Writing the Operational Concepts Definition
This module teaches you how to effectively write an OCD - the document that details computer platforms needed to actually run the system. Those not familiar with any current computer platforms, operating systems or programs can still write an OCD for this module.
Week 6
Writing the Systems Requirements Specifications
This module teaches you how to effectively write an SRS - the actual detailed systems requirements. Real-world examples are provided.
