Full Description
The student must own a working computer with a copy of Adobe PageMaker version 7.0 installed. The student must purchase a copy of Adobe PageMaker 7.0 Classroom in a Book
Publisher: Adobe Press; Book and CD-ROM edition (January 15, 2002) ISBN: 0201756250. The student must have good mouse skills, eye-hand coordination, and keyboard skills; be familiar with such computer skills as creating folders, transferring files, opening files, saving files, and how to minimize and maximize dialog window on their operating system. This class can be used to learn Adobe PageMaker 7.0 on either the Windows or Mac platform. The class consists of ten lessons. The student will create a different kind of document in each lesson. These documents range from a simple one-page flyer to a hyperlinked newsletter that can be posted on a web site. The student will progress from the basic tools and functions to preparing a document for full color printing and converting a document to an Adobe Acrobat file. The time spent on the class is estimated to be 20 to 24 hours. The student should set aside at least two hours for each chapter.


Outcomes:
Students will create ten projects typical of work done in PageMaker. They will learn the basics of the program and gain confidence using the program.


Assessment:
Each project will be emailed to the instructor for evaluation and grading. In addition, each chapter has an evaluation at the end so the students can test themselves.
Week 1
Installing the class files, learning the user interface, and using basic tools to create a flyer. Week 2
Creating a letterhead, business card, and envelope with color. Week 3
Creating a multi-page project proposal using a master page, color, and illustrations. Week 4
Creating an insert booklet for a CD jewelcase, using master pages, custom page size, and the booklet function. Week 5
Creating an 8-page guidebook using styles, two page spreads, unusual text flows, and colored ink. Week 6
Creating a newsletter using adjusted text flows, imported text, the story editor, and the spelling checker. Week 7
Creating a commercially printed catalog with full color graphics, text rules, linked graphics, color separations, and distilling of a pdf file. Week 8
Creating a multi-chapter book with an index and table of contents using the book list function. Week 9
Creating a newsletter for use on the Internet using HTML and PDF, hyperlinks, Web-safe colors, and exporting functions. Week 10
Creating a PDF Web page using hyperlinks, master pages, and anchors.
