Training Provided by Online Training Directory Gain a solid understanding of this powerful database management system Course is designed to provide the end user, with little or no prior experience using Microsoft Access, a solid understanding of the basic commands and features of this powerful database management system. As an introductory level class, topics to be covered include how to design, create, organize, display and query a database through Access. Since Microsoft Access is a Windows-based application, the instructor will provide a review on Windows 95/98 and using the mouse in this environment. New procedures will be introduced through practice exercises to be completed by each student to supplement the learning process and keep track of the student??s progress.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: A. Understand the basic concepts and terms concerning a database management system. B. Determine the meaning of and apply the use of fields, records, tables, databases, datasheets, and objects. C. Understand the differences between a database management system (DBMS) and a relational database management system (RDBMS). D. Design, create, and save a relational database to provide management information E. Modify the design layout of the database objects, specifically Tables and Queries F. Enter, edit and delete records. G. Import and Attach databases from other programs H. Query a database to search for specific records using criteria I. Create advanced queries for data analysis.
Assessment
1. The student will create a database from a given scenario. 2. This will serve as a practice for the student as well as an accomplishment of what they have learned. End result may be submitted to instructor for evaluation if the student so chooses. Database will be inspected and follow-up with students will take place via email.

Week #1?XGetting Started. Using notes and exercises submitted by instructor, students would conduct practice exercises by following the instructions in the notes. At the end of week one, students will be able to: ?h Start the Microsoft Access database application ?h Create, open and close a database ?h Explain the terms related to a database ?h Define the elements displayed on the Access screen ?h Open and close a database object ?h Use the on-line help feature.
Week #2 ?V Designing a database: Using notes and exercises submitted by instructor, students would conduct practice exercises by following the instructions in the notes. At the end of week two, students will be able to: ?h Follow a five step process to design a database ?h Create a table with and without the Table Wizard ?h Define the fields in a table ?h Add, Delete and Move Fields
Week #3 ?V Working with tables: Using notes and exercises submitted by instructor, students would conduct practice exercises by following the instructions in the notes. At the end of week three, students will be able to: ?h Change a field??s properties ?h Define a primary key ?h Enter, edit and delete records in a table
Week #4 ?VImporting and Attaching Using notes and exercises submitted by instructor, students would conduct practice exercises by following the instructions in the notes. At the end of week four, students will be able to: ?h Import an ACCESS table from one database to another ?h Import an EXCEL worksheet into an ACCESS table ?h Import a WORD table into an ACCESS table.
Week #5 ?VRelating Tables: Using notes and exercises submitted by instructor, students would conduct practice exercises by following the instructions in the notes. At the end of week five, students will be able to: ?h Understand the reasons behind creating relationships between tables ?h Identify the differences between one-to-many, many-to-many, and one-to-one relationship types ?h Create relationships between tables ?h View, edit and delete relationships between tables.
Week #6 ?V Designing Queries: Using notes and exercises submitted by instructor, students would conduct practice exercises by following the instructions in the notes. At the end of week six, students will be able to: ?h Create a query with and without wizard ?h Select fields for a query ?h Use criteria to limit the query ?h Save the query ?h Add and delete a table from a query ?h Use multiple tables in a select query ?h Select top values with a query ?h Use summary calculations in a query ?h Create a parameter query ?h Devise an append and an update query
