This Web-based course provide users with a hands-on introduction to the Linux operating system, with emphasis on practicing essential skills for setting-up and using a Linux desktop. In all, it covers general information on more than 50 Linux distributions. The course is designed for new users as a way to familiarize themselves with Linux, but it does assume the user already has some distribution of Linux installed on their system. For those students who do not have Linux installed on their computer, we have provided access to the WinLinux2000 distribution, free of charge. This Web-based course is supplemented with a detailed student manual, containing dozens of assignments and activities, and a `Virtual Hard Drive,` providing access to over 500 Linux applications, downloads and resources.
Outcomes:
There is no instructor for this course, nor are there any mandatory assignments to be submitted for evaluation. Students can assess their progress based on the ability to perform the skills outlined in the learner guide and in the course curriculum
