21st Century Professional Networking
This course examines professional networking methodologies and practices in today`s global communications environment. Participants will network with each other utilizing practices and prescriptions for networking success. From grass roots communications to technology based networking, this course will examine the catalysts to successful networking practices. Participants will network via e-mail, discussion threads, online chats and where feasibile by telephone. The majority of the work will be accomplished in an asynchronous (any time, any place) environment with synchronous elements scheduled periodically based on participant need and schedules. Direct application of the learning is the desired outcome. Another desired outcome will be networking established amoung the participants that will continue beyond the course duration, to continue the dialogue of applications. Participants will have key learnings that contribute to their forms and formats for networking and be able to apply those to their professional networking arenas. |

Measurement and successful completion of this course will require participants to complete each week`s readings, contribute to the discussion threads, write two (2) summary papers and complete an online survey.

Read "Professional Networking for Dummies", Chapters 1-4 and contribute to the discussion thread for Week 1. Write a brief 3-5 page (double spaced) paper outlining your current networking style and practices, and submit to course instructor via e-mail.
Read "Professional Networking for Dummies", Chapters 5-8 and contribute to the discussion thread for Week 2. Take the online survey on networking and submit.
Read "Professional Networking for Dummies", Chapters 9-13 and contribute to the discussion thread for Week 3.
Read "Professional Networking for Dummies", Chapters 14-16 and contribute to the discussion thread for Week 4.
Read "Professional Networking for Dummies", Chapters 17-20 and contribute to the discussion thread for Week 5. Write a summary paper, 5-8 pages (double spaced) outlining your key learnings from the course and how you have or will apply the learnings to your professional networking practices.
