Training
Provided by Multi-media Access
"Safe Stacking and Storage" is for all workers who are responsible for storing and stacking materials. Workers will learn to build a safe stack while considering shape, weight, packaging strength, contents, and proper clearances. The course explains the dangers associated with improper clearances and explains how reliable information can be obtained for a material's safe stacking and storage requirements. After successful completion of the course, workers will also be able to explain the dangers of improper storage and to identify hazardous contents. Delivery formats include CD-ROM, LAN, WAN, Intranet, Internet. The course can be customized to meet your site-specific needs. It is currently available in English, but other language tracks can be added.

Safe Stacking and Storage
"Safe Stacking and Storage" is a must see for all shipping, receiving, warehouse, and material handling workers. This course covers in detail the four basic rules for safe stacking and storage:
1. Build a safe load.
2. Observe proper clearances.
3. Consider the shape of the container.
4. Consider the contents.
This course will teach your workers how protect themselves and the materials they handle by using sound stacking and storage techniques.
Topics
The course presents interactive instruction covering the following topical areas:
Building a Safe Load
Safe base
Safe height
Cross-tying
Observing Proper Clearance
Proper clearance
Consider the Shape of Containers
Round containers
Cartons and boxes
Bags
Pipes, bars, and tubes
Additional Materials
Consider the Contents
Hazardous materials
Adequate ventilation
Performance Objectives
This course will measure mastery on each of the following performance objectives. Upon completion, workers will be able to...
Build a safe load
Define a "safe base".
List examples of firm foundations for loads.
State where to place heavy and large objects.
Relate weight to placement and stacking height.
State the importance of load capacity.
Relate balance and stability to safety
List stacking patterns that promote balance and stability.
Recall how balance and stability influence safety.
State the risks of unbalanced and unstable loads.
State the risks of ignoring weight capacity and height restrictions.
List methods to secure loads.
Maintain proper storage clearance
List different types of clearance.
State consequences of ignoring clearance needs during storage.
Maintain safety clearance
State how flammable items can affect clearance space.
Identify areas that should always be kept clear.
Use shape to determine storage method
List different container shapes and common storage methods for each.
State how container shape affects balance and stability during storage.
