CD-ROM based training modules allow for individualized pace and practice, prevent failure through self-correcting feedback, can be available anytime at work or at home, and provide documentation for supervisory and regulatory review. Understanding and respect for human rights is important in all aspects of human service occupations. This training module is made up of three CD-ROMs that focus on the history of the human rights movement (Part I), responsibilities for human service providers (Part II) and an introduction to self-advocacy for persons with disabilities (Part III). Because of the complex nature of issues addressed in this series, CD-ROM's are sold only as a complete set.

Understanding Human Rights
This series reviews key legislative milestones including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and an in-depth study of six fundamental human rights as seen through the eyes of a person with developmental disabilities. Key issues related to protection from abuse or mistreatment, the form and function of Human Rights Committees, and documentation and reporting requirements for human service providers are included. The third CD in the set provides a simplified version of information suitable for self-advocacy training of persons with developmental disabilities. Modules were developed with consultation from the Massachusetts Office of Mental Retardation Human Rights Office.
