Description

In this course, students will learn to implement a database design on Microsoft® SQL Server 6.5. Specific topics include: SQL Server implementor roles and responsibilities; data modeling and data definition concepts; database object creation, such as tables; and basic data retrieval, manipulation, and modification. This course, together with MS SQL Server 6.5 DB Design Il, prepares students for the ‘Implementing a Database Design on Microsoft® SQL Server 6.5 Certification Exam 70-027.

Audience

This course is designed for database implementors, database administrators, system engineers, developers using Transact-SQL code, Help Desk technicians and Microsoft® Certification Professional candidates.

Prerequisites

The student is expected to have a working knowledge of relational database theory and database design, SQL Enterprise Manager or isql/w., ANSI-SQL statements, Microsoft Windows® interface, Microsoft Windows NT® Server network operating system, Microsoft networking fundamentals.

Objective

Design a database by applying data modeling concepts

  • Identify the roles of system databases and tables
  • Define data by using system functions and applying constraints
  • Create database objects, such as tables and views
  • Allocate space to database objects
  • Create indexes, considering performance issues
  • Enforce data integrity by creating and implementing rules, defaults, and constraints
  • Write basic Transact-SQL® statements to query data
  • Write Transact-SQL® statements to summarize and manipulate data
  • Write Transact-SQL® statements to modify data
  • Import and export data
  • These course objectives correspond to the specific skills measured by the ‘Implementing a Database Design on Microsoft® SQL Server 6.5 Certification Exam 70-027.
