Description
This course teaches the student how to design a database and enhance the efficiency of queries by using different types of indexes. It also describes the process of crating files and filegroups and helps students to select an application programming interface for accessing a data source. In addition, the course prepares students to take the Microsoft Certification Administering Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 (70-019).
Audience
This course is intended for all system administrators, help desk/support personnel, and application developers who design and implement data warehouse solutions by using Microsoft SQL Server 7.0.
Prerequisites
The student should be familiar with the relational database and data warehousing concepts and terminology and should have an experience in designing database management systems. The student should also have an understanding of Windows NT 4.0 Server and should have a knowledge of basic ANSI statements.
Objective
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- describe the design time considerations for a database
- create files and filegroups for a database
- identify API considerations for accessing warehouse data
- select an API for accessing warehouse data
- describe the various indexing schemes provided by SQL Server 7.0
- create and optimize indexes
- identify SQL Server tools used for summarizing data
- summarize data using aggregate functions in the SELECT statement
- summarize data using the GROUP BY, WHERE, and HAVING clauses in the SELECT statement
- summarize data using the CUBE and ROLLUP operators
- create views for filtering data
- create joins on tables
- identify the methods used for importing and exporting warehouse data
- describe the architecture and working of Data Transformation Services
- use the DTS Import and Export Wizards to create a DTS package
- use the DTS Designer to create a custom package
