Description
This course is the first course in the VB Databases curriculum. This course teaches students database basics and database creation through a VB application. Also, this course teaches the students to access databases using various Visual Basic tools and options, such as Data Form Wizard and Data Control.
Audience
Programmers and Application Developers who have experience in programming using a structured language like Fortran and Pascal constitute the primary audience for this curriculum.
Prerequisites
Users taking this course should be familiar with the interface elements of VB 6.0, such as the Toolbox and the Properties window. Users should also know the basics of Visual Basic programming.
Objective
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- define common database terms
- create a database using Visual Data Manager
- use the ODBC administrator to create a data source name
- use the Register Database method to create an ODBC-accessible data source
- use the Data Environment to access a database
- use SQL Queries to retrieve data
