Audience
This course is intended for end users who want to learn the fundamental capabilities of Approach. Participants should have taken Microsoft Windows 95 - Fundamentals (Course 70011).
Objective
- Identify the functions and elements of Approach 97.
- Join databases create charts and integrate data from other applications.
- Locate data in Approach 97 databases using the Find/Sort Assistant.
- Improve data entry by using forms and views and ensure data integrity.
- Identify the types of reports that can be generated in Approach 97.
- Create and modify reports.

Unit 1: Approach 97: An Introduction
- Identify the functions of Approach 97.
- Launch Approach 97 from the Windows 95 desktop.
- Match the elements of the Action Bar with their functions.
- Match the buttons in the Approach 97 StatusBar with their functions.

- Identify the factors that determine the planning of a database.
- Match the database elements with their descriptions.

Unit 4: Working with Forms and Views

Unit 5: Presenting Data
- Match the Approach 97 report types with their descriptions.
- Create a standard report including selected fields of a database.
- Insert trailing information in the displayed report.
- Move a field of a report.
- Resize a field.
- Sort the data in a field.
- Group records of a column.
- Print the displayed report.
- Summarize records of a column.
- Create a Crosstab report.
- Interchange the contents of the Crosstab rows and columns.

Minimum Requirements
The CDROM version of this course requires:
- At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
- Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
- At least 8MB RAM.
- At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
- At least a double speed CDROM drive.
- An MPC compliant sound card with attached speakers or headphones is recommended (Currently only the CDROM version supports audio).
- At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
- Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
- At least 8MB RAM and 22MB available hard disk space or file server space.
- At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
