Audience
This course series is for system administrators who are responsible for Domino server and Notes client. Participants should have completed NETg course 13403 Lotus Domino R5 Development Part 1: Basic Concepts or have equivalent knowledge and have completed the first nine courses in this series.
Objective
- Identify the monitor server database and user activity on the Domino server.
- Monitor the statistics and events of Domino servers by using monitors probes and event messages to ensure the integrity of the Domino system.
- Monitor mail and database replication.
- Perform backup tasks restore lost IDs and passwords and recover lost data.

Unit 1: Monitoring the Domino Server
- Install a Domino server as a Performance Monitor counter in Windows NT.
- Display Domino statistics by using the menu bar in the Performance Monitor window.
- Match various Server log file views with the situations in which the information contained in them is used.
- Search the Domino Server log file for specific information by using Domino Administrator.
Unit 2: Statistics and Events
- Configure the Server Statistic Collection document by using Domino Administrator.
- Create a Domino system statistic for an add-in application by using Domino Administrator.
- Match the monitor with the task it can perform.
- Create an ACL change monitor by using Domino Administrator.
- Create a file monitor to track database use by using Domino Administrator.
- Create a replication monitor by using Domino Administrator.
- Create a statistic monitor by using Domino Administrator.
- Create a Domino server probe by using Domino Administrator.
- Create a mail probe by using Domino Administrator.
- Create a TCP server probe by using Domino Administrator.
- Display event messages by using Domino Administrator.
- Create an event notification for an event that matches specified criteria by using Domino Administrator.
Unit 3: Monitoring Mail and Replication
- Configure the Domino server for mail tracking by using Domino Administrator.
- Identify the commands required to perform specific Mail Tracker Collector tasks.
- Create the Reports database.
- Create a mail tracking request by using Domino Administrator.
- Generate a mail usage report.
- Match the information to be recorded in the Server log with the value specified in the Log Replication entry.
- Match the error messages commonly displayed in the Server log with the problems they indicate.
- Match the error messages commonly displayed in the Notes log of a client with the problems they indicate.
- Identify the information displayed by the Replication Schedule option.
Unit 4: Backup and Recovery Tasks
- Identify the files that must be backed up on a Notes system to restore the system in case of a failure.
- Match each backup method with the situation in which it is best suited.
- Set up password recovery for an ID file by specifying the ID recovery information in the certifier ID file.
- Send the recovery information to a user by using the Domino Administrator.
- Obtain an administration password for recovering an ID file by using the Domino Administrator.
- Identify the actions to be performed by the administrator to prepare for disaster recovery.
- Recover a database that has not been modified after its last replication from its replica.
- Recover databases from backup tapes.
- Identify the actions to be performed by the administrator to recover individual documents from backup tapes.

Minimum Requirements
The CDROM version of this course requires:
- At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
- Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
- At least 8MB RAM.
- At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
- At least a double speed CDROM drive.
- An MPC compliant sound card with attached speakers or headphones is recommended (Currently only the CDROM version supports audio).
The network version of this course requires:
- At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
- Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
- At least 8MB RAM and 22MB available hard disk space or file server space.
- At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
