Description

This course is the last in a four-part series that is based on Cisco Systems' instructor-led training, Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices (ICND 1.0). In this series, the concepts, commands, and practice required to configure Cisco switches and routers in multiprotocol internetworks are covered. Installation, configuration, and troubleshooting information and practice that technical support people require to install and configure Cisco switches and routers are also explored. This course will cover WAN connections, ISDN, BRI, Legacy DDR, and Frame Relay PVC Services.

Audience

Network technicians new to Cisco products and services, network administrators, network support staff performing a help desk role, and network support staff who will act as network device installers and first-line support are some of the types of people who would benefit from taking this course. This course will help candidates prepare for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) exam 640-607. Participants taking this course should either have knowledge equivalent to or have taken the Internetworking Technologies series (courses 20011-20014). In addition, participants should have taken the first three parts in this series (course 20021-20023).

Objective

  • Identify the WAN connections and discuss the HDLC and PPP protocols.
  • Identify the ISDN BRI operation and legacy DDR.
  • Identify how to configure ISDN BRI and legacy DDR on a Cisco router.
  • Identify the Frame Relay and its operation.
  • Identify the skills to configure and verify Frame Relay and Frame Relay subinterfaces on a PVC connection.

Unit 1: WAN Connections

  • Match WAN connection types with their definitions.
  • Match the terms associated with WAN service providers with their definitions.
  • Label the serial cables with their serial standard types.
  • Match WAN encapsulation protocols with their descriptions.
  • Configure the HDLC encapsulation protocol on a serial WAN connection using the HDLC configuration command.
  • Configure PPP encapsulation on a serial WAN connection using the PPP configuration command.
  • Sequence the phases in a PPP session.
  • Configure PPP authentication on a connection.

Unit 2: ISDN BRI and Legacy DDR

  • Match ISDN protocols with their functions.
  • Match ISDN reference points with their descriptions.
  • Match ISDN components with their characteristics.
  • Sequence the events of the procedure to set up an ISDN BRI call.
  • Match ISDN BRI configuration tasks with their task types.
  • Configure the switch type for an ISDN BRI connection given specified conditions.
  • Configure service profile identifiers for BRI connection using Telnet.
  • Sequence the steps in a generic DDR operation using PPP encapsulation.
  • Identify the functions of DDR commands.
  • Configure Legacy DDR using ACLs on an ISDN router.
  • Match DDR show and debug commands with their functions.

Unit 3: Frame Relay PVC Services

  • Match Frame Relay terms with their definitions.
  • Match LMI signaling standard enhancements with their functions.
  • Sequence the steps in the IARP and LMI operation.
  • Match Frame Relay commands with their functions.
  • Configure a Frame Relay connection between two sites given a serial connection.
  • Match Frame Relay show and debug commands with their functions.
  • Match Frame Relay topologies with their characteristics.
  • Configure a Frame Relay subinterface on a serial interface.

Minimum Requirements

The CDROM version of this course requires:

  • At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
  • Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
  • At least 8MB RAM.
  • At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
  • At least a double speed CDROM drive.
  • An MPC compliant sound card with attached speakers or headphones is recommended (Currently, only the CDROM version supports audio).
The network version of this course requires:
  • At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
  • Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
  • At least 8MB RAM and 14MB available hard disk space or file server space.
  • At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
