Unit 1: Background Information

  • Identify the sources of team conflict.
  • List the benefits of team conflict.
  • Distinguish between a debate and an argument.
  • Apply steps to foster healthy debates.
  • Simulation Overview:
  • In this simulation you will meet with Janet Porter Icon's Director of Business Development. Janet has a substantial amount of experience with facilitation that she would like to pass on to you during this conversation. Through your questions you will learn the sources of conflict in a team setting the benefits of conflict how to tell the difference between a debate and an argument and how to foster healthy debates among team members.

Unit 2: Handling Difficult Team Members

  • List five types of difficult team members.
  • Facilitate five types of difficult team members.
  • Avoid conflict with a team's leader.
  • Use a communication process to minimize interpersonal conflicts.
  • Simulation Overview:
  • In this simulation you will meet with John Cunningham one of Icon's Human Resources Assistants. Since John has a strong background in the area of facilitation he is anxious to pass his knowledge on to you. Through your questions you will learn the main types of difficult team members the most effective techniques used to facilitate difficult team members and the techniques used to avoid conflict with a team's leader.

Unit 3: Confronting Team Resistance

  • Identify common behaviors of resistant teams.
  • Apply a process to handle team resistance.
  • Use steps to help a team stay energized.
  • Handle intentional attendance problems effectively.
  • Handle challenges to your authority.
  • Simulation Overview:
  • In this simulation you will meet with Nicholas Richter Ronald Spear and Caroline Harris three of Icon's District Sales Managers. You are all members of a team responsible for developing a new training program for Icon's sales force. During this meeting you will act as the team's facilitator. Your job is to recognize and overcome the team members' resistance to facilitation.

Unit 4: Resolving Conflict

  • Apply two steps for resolving conflict.
  • Differentiate among the methods used to resolve conflict.
  • List the advantages of using collaboration to resolve conflict.
  • Perform an intervention using the facilitative process.
  • List three elements of an intervention statement.
  • Use strategies to preempt conflict.
  • Simulation Overview:
  • In this simulation you will meet with Ronald Spear Caroline Harris and Nicholas Richter three of Icon's District Sales Managers. You are a member of a team asked to develop a new training program for Account Executives. During this meeting you will serve as the team's facilitator. Your job is to make sure all of the team members respectfully interact and actively work to resolve the issues.

The CDROM version of this course requires:

  • At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
  • Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
  • At least 8MB RAM.
  • At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
  • At least a double speed CDROM drive.
  • An MPC compliant sound card with attached speakers or headphones is recommended (Currently only the CDROM version supports audio).
The network version of this course requires:
  • At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
  • Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
  • At least 8MB RAM and 22MB available hard disk space or file server space.
  • At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
