  • Simulation Overview:
  • In this simulation you will meet with Janet Porter Icon's Director of Business Development. Janet is an experienced member of virtual teams and she would like to discuss virtual teams with you. Through your questions and Janet's insight you will learn about the types of virtual meetings and the types of work completed by virtual team members.

Unit 2: Participating in Team-Orientation Sessions

  • List the elements that should be included in an agenda for an orientation session.
  • Develop a set of norms that outline a virtual team's behaviors.
  • Use team-building activities to enhance relationships among virtual team members.
  • Identify the importance of trust among members serving on a virtual team.
  • Build trust with members of a virtual team.
  • List three characteristics exemplified by trustworthy virtual team members.
  • Simulation Overview:
  • In this simulation you will meet face-to-face with Drew Canfield Icon's Vice President of International Marketing; Elizabeth Thomas Icon's Director of Information Services; and Jessica Stone Icon's Director of International Sales. All three are members of a virtual team instructed to develop a plan that will increase the sales of Icon's office support equipment. Several members of the virtual team have traveled to New York to meet face-to-face for the team's three-day orientation session.

Unit 3: Ensuring Virtual Team Effectiveness

  • Identify factors that influence a virtual meeting's effectiveness.
  • Recognize indications of a virtual meeting's ineffectiveness.
  • Apply techniques to overcome a virtual meeting's ineffectiveness.
  • List the four stages of a virtual team's social dynamics.
  • Identify three factors that influence a virtual team's social dynamics.
  • Simulation Overview:
  • In this simulation you will participate in an audio conference with Liz Fisher Drew Canfield Mary Winford and Greg Avery. All are members of the recently formed virtual team that is instructed to increase sales of Icon's office support equipment. During this meeting you need to help the team members communicate effectively and make a preliminary decision about Mary's plan to target the new line of office furniture at small businesses.

Unit 4: Making Decisions in Virtual Teams

  • Apply six steps to enhance a virtual team's decision-making process.
  • List four methods virtual teams use to make decisions.
  • Identify the challenges that virtual team members encounter when making decisions.
  • Determine how cultural influences affect a virtual team's decision-making process.
  • Determine how the use of technology affects a virtual team's decision-making process.
  • Simulation Overview:
  • In this simulation you will participate in a videoconference with Mary Winford Icon's Regional Vice President of Sales and Greg Avery one of Icon's Engineering Managers. You are part of a virtual team instructed to develop an advertising campaign for the introduction of Icon's new line of office furniture. Although Elizabeth Thomas the team's leader cannot attend this meeting she has instructed the three of you to make a recommendation about which types of advertising should be used during the campaign.

Minimum Requirements

The CDROM version of this course requires:

  • At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
  • Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
  • At least 8MB RAM.
  • At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
  • At least a double speed CDROM drive.
  • An MPC compliant sound card with attached speakers or headphones is recommended (Currently only the CDROM version supports audio).
The network version of this course requires:
  • At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
  • Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
  • At least 8MB RAM and 22MB available hard disk space or file server space.
  • At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
