Unit 1: Background Information
- Identify three basic behavior styles.
- List four benefits of assertive behavior.
- Identify three factors that influence assertive communication.
- Simulation Overview:
- In this simulation you will meet with Carla Jackson one of Icon's Human Resources Assistants. Since Carla works in the Human Resources Department she has been exposed to many different types of behavior styles. Through your questions and her answers Carla will share her knowledge with you about behavior styles the benefits of assertive behavior and the factors that enable you to communicate assertively.
Unit 2: Enhancing Self-Esteem
- Identify the sources of self-esteem.
- Explain the effects of self-talk on self-esteem.
- Understand the effects of self-fulfilling prophecies.
- Use four activities to enhance your self-esteem.
- Simulation Overview:
- In this simulation you will meet with John Cunningham one of Icon's Human Resources Assistants to discuss enhancing your self-esteem. Through your questions and John's answers you will learn how self-esteem affects your ability to be assertive the effects of self-fulfilling prophecies and how to enhance your self-esteem.
Unit 3: Managing Conflict and Emotions
- Approach conflict assertively.
- Respond assertively to three types of put-downs.
- Express your emotions assertively.
- Identify four fears that inhibit the expression of anger.
- Express your anger constructively.
- Simulation Overview:
- In this simulation you will meet with Phyllis Bannon one the Vice Presidents of Marketing at Icon. Phyllis is your mentor at Icon. Through your questions and her answers you will learn how negative experiences can help you become more assertive how to manage conflict and confrontation in a positive manner and why you need to be responsible for your emotions.
Unit 4: Improving Communication Skills
- Apply four guidelines for implementing behavioral changes.
- List three elements of assertive verbal communication.
- Identify passive assertive and aggressive nonverbal communication.
- Strengthen your assertiveness using six actions.
- Simulation Overview:
- In this simulation you will meet with Marcus Robinson Icon's Information Services Manager and David Morris one of Icon's Engineers. You are the Project Manager for the implementation of Icon's video-conferencing network and you have called this meeting to discuss the delays in the implementation process.

Minimum Requirements
The CDROM version of this course requires:
- At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
- Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
- At least 8MB RAM.
- At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
- At least a double speed CDROM drive.
- An MPC compliant sound card with attached speakers or headphones is recommended (Currently only the CDROM version supports audio).
The network version of this course requires:
- At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
- Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
- At least 8MB RAM and 22MB available hard disk space or file server space.
- At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
