Audience

Managers and employees who want to gain the knowledge and skills to give effective presentations.

  • Apply four steps to help reduce your fear of speaking.
  • Apply five elements of nonverbal communication to improve your delivery.
  • Apply three guidelines for using visual aids during your presentation.
  • Apply four steps to properly answer a question during your presentation.

Topics Include

Unit 1: Background Information

  • Describe how messages are successfully communicated.
  • Apply steps for speaking extemporaneously.
  • List the three steps in the presentation process.
  • Simulation Overview:
  • In this simulation you will be meeting with Bruce Madison Icon International's Director of Information Services. Through your questions you will identify what extemporaneous speaking is why it is beneficial and how to prepare an extemporaneous presentation.

Unit 2: Preparing to Speak

  • Apply four steps to help reduce your fear of speaking.
  • Use four activities to help you remain calm before a presentation.
  • Take actions to remain calm during a presentation.
  • Take steps to make your delivery appear more relaxed.
  • Simulation Overview:
  • In this simulation you will be meeting with Donna Albert and Nathan Iverson two of Icon International's account executives. The three of you are meeting to discuss upcoming on-location sales presentations about Icon's Worldwide Network Solution. It is your responsibility to answer their questions about delivering presentations to large groups and to help them overcome their nervousness about giving their presentations.

Unit 3: Delivering the Presentation

  • Use seven aspects of your voice to improve your delivery.
  • Apply five elements of nonverbal communication to improve your delivery.
  • Assess the audience during a presentation.
  • Apply three guidelines for using visual aids.
  • Simulation Overview:
  • In this simulation you are meeting with Travis Peterson Icon's Director of Information Services. He has requested this meeting to review a presentation he gave to a group of IT professionals about Icon's Worldwide Network Solution. The two of you are going to review portions of his presentation so you can give him feedback to improve his presentation skills.

Unit 4: Answering Questions

  • Prepare to answer questions during your presentation.
  • Apply four steps to properly answer a question.
  • Apply techniques to handle challenging questions.
  • Apply methods for handling challenging audience members.
  • Simulation Overview:
  • In this simulation you will be meeting with Mary Winford Icon's Regional Vice President of Sales. She will be giving you exercises to identify your knowledge of how to hold a question-and-answer session for a presentation. Through her questions and your answers you will learn when to hold a Q & A session how to handle difficult questions and how to address difficult audience members.

Minimum Requirements

The CDROM version of this course requires:

  • At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
  • Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
  • At least 8MB RAM.
  • At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
  • At least a double speed CDROM drive.
  • An MPC compliant sound card with attached speakers or headphones is recommended (Currently only the CDROM version supports audio).
The network version of this course requires:
  • At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
  • Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
  • At least 8MB RAM and 22MB available hard disk space or file server space.
  • At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
