Unit 1: Background Information
- Focus on problems appropriately.
- Understand the different ways problems can be handled.
- Avoid inadequate responses to a problem.
- Recognize how poor problem solving affects an organization.
- Identify what questions to ask to develop a history of the problem.
- Simulation Overview:
- Each of the simulations allows you to practice the skills learned in the instructional content. You will enter realistic scenarios in which you will interact with a variety of individuals. By using the knowledge you have gained you control the outcome of each simulation.
Unit 2: Analyzing a Problem
- Determine the nature of the problem.
- Generate problem solving options.
- Evaluate the problem solving options.
- Select the best option.
- Prepare for implementation of the option.
- Implement the option successfully.
- Simulation Overview:
- In this simulation you are the General Manager in an integrated power resources company. Three of your employees have requested a meeting with you to discuss problems with the proposed budgets for the next fiscal year. You are meeting with them to discuss the problems and create a solution for the financial overruns.
Unit 3: Generating Solutions Options
- Identify the advantages and disadvantages of team problem solving.
- Recognize the characteristics of an effective team.
- Assemble an effective team.
- Select team members based on set criteria.
- Understand which individuals are effective problem solvers.
- Simulation Overview:
- In this simulation your company has been experiencing an increase in turnover in the Customer Service Department and nothing has been done to correct the problem. You are meeting with the Operations and Human Resources Directors to create a solution to reduce the amount of employee turnover.
Unit 4: Implementing a Solution
- Recognize when a solution is effective.
- Identify the three approaches to problem solving.
- Monitor the implementation of the solution.
- Report the results of the solution's implementation.
- Simulation Overview:
- In this simulation your company has been having communication and system compatibility problems between several of its departments. You are considering hiring an outside consultant to coordinate all of the departments' activities.

Minimum Requirements
The CDROM version of this course requires:
- At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
- Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
- At least 8MB RAM.
- At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
- At least a double speed CDROM drive.
- An MPC compliant sound card with attached speakers or headphones is recommended (Currently only the CDROM version supports audio).
- At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
- Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
- At least 8MB RAM and 22MB available hard disk space or file server space.
- At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
