Description

This multimedia self-paced learning course will instruct you on working with Microsoft Project for Windows 95. The unique Skill Builder instruction uses text, voice, questioning, practice, quizzes and multiple study paths to create a learning environment that enhances your enjoyment and comprehension. Preassessment testing in the beginning of each unit will allow you to have a personalized study path based on the knowledge and skills demonstrated. Audience

This course is intended for business professionals who need to manage project activities or resources and intend to use Microsoft Project 95 as a tool to support those project management activities. Participants should have taken Microsoft Windows 95 Fundamentals (Course 70011).

Prerequisites

(Currently no course prerequisite information)

Objective

  • Create and outline a project, define the project models and the components of a project.
  • Specify project tasks, establish a relationship between them and identify strategies that can be used for effective Project Management.
  • Create a Resource Sheet and use it to assign tasks and resources and resolve resource overallocations.
  • Track progress of the project cost, modify the critical path and print reports.

Topics Include

Unit 1 -- Setting up a Project Plan

  • Create and Save a Project File.
  • Identify information in a project schedule.
  • Define the three parts of a project: - Project Tasks - Resources - Calendars
  • View the Resources available for the project.
  • Modify a Project Calendar for a group of resources.
  • Identify the features and definition of PERT Chart and Critical Path Method, and locate information in a Gantt Chart.
  • Create a hierarchical structure for the Project Tasks and relocate them.

Unit 2 -- Scheduling Tasks

  • Enter and edit tasks in the Gantt Chart.
  • Create a relationship between selected tasks by using the concept of Lag time, Lead time and timescale.
  • Display specific project information in a view using different tools.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously by consolidating them.
  • List the strategies to increase efficiency of the project.
  • Format the project information for printing.
  • Preview the project information.

Unit 3 -- Monitoring Resources and Costs

  • Create a Resource sheet.
  • Change resource assignments by assigning and removing resources.
  • Identify the need to assign costs to tasks and resources.
  • Assign a rate to a resource.
  • Assign a fixed cost to a task.
  • Accrue costs using one of the three accrual methods: - Start - Prorated - End
  • Change a resource assigned to a task.
  • Change the amount of work assigned to a resource.
  • Change the work schedule of a resource.
  • Resolve resource overallocation automatically.

Unit 4 -- Monitoring Project Progress

  • Track progress of the project at different stages and at varying levels of details.
  • Set a baseline plan with baseline dates, work and cost.
  • Modify the schedule with current Project information to make it up-to-date.
  • Identify the current project status options that are compared with the baseline plan.
  • Compare total costs for the project with the overall budget.
  • Identify the methods to reduce a task cost.
  • Break a large task into summary tasks and subtasks.
  • Change task relationships.
  • Schedule tasks limitations by resolving conflicts and task constraints.
  • Identify the methods to resolve conflicts related to task constraints.
  • Print four types of reports: - Summary Report - Task Report - Crosstab Report - Resource Report

Minimum Requirements

The CDROM version of this course requires:

  • At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
  • Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
  • At least 8MB RAM.
  • At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
  • At least a double speed CDROM drive.
  • An MPC compliant sound card with attached speakers or headphones is recommended (Currently, only the CDROM version supports audio).
The network version of this course requires:
  • At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
  • Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
  • At least 8MB RAM and 22MB available hard disk space or file server space.
  • At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
