Description

This course is intended for end users who are looking to use the advanced features of Microsoft Project 98. This course is the final part of a two part series that will prepare individuals for the Microsoft Project 98 Expert User certification exam in the Microsoft Office User Specialist Program.

Audience

This course is intended for end users who are looking to use the fundamental capabilities of Microsoft Project 98. Participants should have completed the first course in the series.

Objective

  • Estimate costs and apply work contours when assigning resources to tasks.
  • Factor costs into key decisions regarding project management by adding cost information to a project plan.
  • Format a project using various styles.
  • Define a plan for installing Microsoft Project 98.
  • Identify the solutions for solving common set up problems.

Topics Include

Unit 1: Managing Resources and Costs

  • Set the assignment units for a resource.
  • Match the different types of work contours with the situations in which they are applied.
  • Apply a work contour to a work assignment.
  • Access the cost rate tables.
  • Identify the advantages of assigning costs to tasks and resources.
  • Display the costs incurred on a project.
  • Display the Earned Value table.

Unit 2: Tracking Approaches

  • Save a Baseline Cost timephased field to compare the baseline cost with actual cost incurred on a project.
  • Update the actual cost timephased field by populating the percentage Work Complete column.
  • Update the percentage Work Complete column to display the budgeted cost of work performed (BCWP).
  • Identify the definition of the types of earned value variance.
  • Graph the earned value data by using the Analyze Timescaled Data Wizard.

Unit 3: Formatting Styles

  • Format the Gantt bars for a task.
  • Format a PERT Chart.
  • Save a project template.
  • Invoke a report.
  • Format the header and footer of a report.
  • Configure the Calculation tab to modify the calculations in Microsoft Project 98.
  • Configure the View tab to specify the default view and the date format.

Unit 4: Installing Microsoft Project 98: Considerations

  • Identify the factors to consider when installing Microsoft Project 98.
  • Match the installation types of Microsoft Project 98 with their descriptions.
  • Match the installation media available for installing Microsoft Project 98 with the situations in which they are appropriate.
  • Match the installation methods of Microsoft Project 98 with their descriptions.
  • Install Microsoft Project 98 from the Microsoft Project 98 CD by using the Custom Installation type.
  • Match the Microsoft Project 98 setup problems with their solutions.

Minimum Requirements

The CDROM version of this course requires:

  • At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
  • Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
  • At least 8MB RAM.
  • At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
  • At least a double speed CDROM drive.
  • An MPC compliant sound card with attached speakers or headphones is recommended (Currently, only the CDROM version supports audio).
The network version of this course requires:
  • At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
  • Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
  • At least 8MB RAM and 22MB available hard disk space or file server space.
  • At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
