Description

This course provides participants with the fundamental skills to use Outlook 98 on a daily basis in their workplace. Students will learn how to perform basic communication and personal organization tasks within Outlook 98.

Audience

This course is intended for end users who are looking to use the fundamental features of Microsoft Outlook 98.

Prerequisites

(Currently no course prerequisite information)

Objective

Upon completion of this course, the student will understand:

  • Identify the features and components of Outlook 98.
  • Perform basic tasks in the Inbox component.
  • Perform basic tasks in the Calendar component.
  • Perform basic tasks in the Tasks and Notes components.

Topics Include

Unit 1: Introduction to Outlook 98 1 - 2 hours

  • Identify the features and components of Outlook 98.
  • Identify the function of each screen element in the Outlook 98 window.
  • Navigate to folders by using the Outlook Bar.
  • Identify the features of the Outlook Today page.
  • Customize the Outlook Today page.

Unit 2: Inbox and Messages 1 - 2 hours

  • Create a new entry in the Personal Address Book.
  • Send an e-mail message.
  • Format the message body text in an e-mail message.
  • Perform a spelling check on an e-mail message.
  • Attach a file to an e-mail message.
  • Copy text to an e-mail message.
  • Add a personal distribution list to the Address Book.
  • Identify message-sending options.
  • Recall a sent e-mail message.
  • View an e-mail message and its attachment.
  • Save an e-mail message and its attachment.
  • Reply to an e-mail message.
  • Forward an e-mail message.
  • Manage incoming e-mail messages by marking their status and adding flags.
  • Reply to an e-mail message by using a voting button.
  • Organize folders.
  • Search for items in the Inbox by using the Find button.
  • Customize how the Inbox sorts, color-codes, displays and blocks e-mail messages.
  • Delete e-mail messages and folders to the Deleted Items folder.

  • Schedule an appointment.
  • Modify an existing appointment.
  • Schedule appointments that recur regularly.
  • Edit a recurring appointment.
  • Schedule an all-day event.
  • Schedule an annual event.

  • Respond to a meeting request.
  • Check attendee availability.
  • Track meetings.
  • Reschedule a meeting.
  • Cancel a meeting.

Unit 4: Tasks and Notes 2 hours

  • Create a task.
  • Update a task list by modifying task details and deleting a completed task.
  • Create a recurring task.
  • Create a note.
  • Modify the Notes page by changing the color of a note and deleting a note.

Minimum Requirements

The CDROM version of this course requires:

  • At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
  • Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
  • At least 8MB RAM.
  • At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
  • At least a double speed CDROM drive.
  • An MPC compliant sound card with attached speakers or headphones is recommended (Currently, only the CDROM version supports audio).
The network version of this course requires:
  • At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
  • Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
  • At least 8MB RAM and 22MB available hard disk space or file server space.
  • At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
