Description

This is the second course in a three part series designed for developers. This series will introduce them to the opportunities and challenges of creating enterprise-level applications. Participants will see how creating such flexible and scalable applications can be challenging and will learn how to address these challenges by employing appropriate design, tools, and technology.

Audience

This course is intended for developers who want to create enterprise-level applications. Participants should have completed Solutions Development Discipline (Courses 72211, 72212 and 72213), Designing Component Solutions (Courses 72214 and 72215) and the first course in this series.

Prerequisites

(Currently no course prerequisite information)

Objective

  • Identify the features of different types of application architectures and the role of distributed applications in business computing.
  • Identify the tasks involved in defining the application architecture of an application and create a logical model by using the Visual Modeler.
  • Identify the various functions in implementing data tier and use the tools to implement the data tier.

Topics Include

Unit 1: Defining Distributed Applications

  • Identify the features of single-tier applications.
  • Identify the features of two-tier applications.
  • Identify the benefits of stored procedures.
  • Identify the features of three-tier applications.
  • Identify the architecture type to be implemented in a given scenario.
  • Identify the features of distributed applications.
  • Identify the benefits of distributed applications.
  • Identify the features of Windows DNA architecture.

Unit 2: Application Architecture

  • Identify the tasks involved in defining the application architecture.
  • Identify the situations in which business logic should be implemented by using a given method.
  • Match the situation with the presentation logic method by which it should be implemented.
  • Identify the factors to be considered for analyzing the technical requirements of a business solution.
  • Identify the features of Visual Modeler.
  • Add a component to a design document by using the Visual Modeler.

Unit 3: Implementing a Data Tier

  • Sequence the process of creating a logical design based on the entity-relationship model.
  • Match the different entities and their types in a given scenario.
  • Identify the objects for an entity in a given scenario.
  • Match the relationships with their types in a given scenario.
  • Identify the tasks to be performed at different levels of normalization.
  • Identify the levels of normalization of tables in a given scenario.
  • Identify the data storage architecture considerations in a given scenario.
  • Identify the features of a physical data design.
  • Identify the functions of Data View window.
  • Identify the uses of the Database Designer.
  • Add a new table to a database by using the Visual Data View Window.
  • Identify the features of Universal Data Access.
  • Identify the features of the ActiveX Data Objects (ADO) object model.
  • Identify the objects and collections in the ADO object hierarchy.
  • Identify the practices that improve the code performance while coding in ADO.
  • Add a record to a table using Query Designer.
