Audience
This course is intended for IT professionals who are responsible for installing configuring customizing optimizing integrating and troubleshooting Microsoft Windows 98. Participants should be familiar with Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0 completed NETg course series 71441 - 71444 Networking Essentials 2nd Edition and have taken the first two courses in the series.
Objective
- Describe elements of a multiple installation plan.
- Select an appropriate multiple installation method and automate a multiple installation setup.
- Install and configure the networking components to establish a network.
- Monitor the resources of remote computers.
Topics Include
Unit 1: Installing Windows 98 in a Network
- Identify the tasks that are necessary for an effective multiple installation plan.
- Identify the multiple installation methods for Windows 98 that would be most appropriate in a given situation.
- Create a batch installation file.
- Create a multiple machine name batch file.
- Add components to the batch setup file.
Unit 2: Configuring Networking Components
- Assign a unique identity to a machine by specifying a computer name and a workgroup name.
- Install the network adapter card.
- Identify the features of the different types of network protocols accommodated by Windows 98 on a single computer.
- Install network protocols.
- Configure TCP/IP by assigning an IP address manually.
- Identify the functions of the additional TCP/IP options used to enhance connectivity.
- Identify the task that needs to be performed to enable an IP address to be assigned to a computer by automatic private IP addressing.
- Access information about TCP/IP connection.
- Identify the modifications to be made to the network bindings for optimizing the performance of a computer.
- Configure network binding of a network adapter card.
Unit 3: Managing and Monitoring Network Resources Objectives:
- Install Client for Microsoft Networks manually.
- Share the resources of a computer with other computers running Windows 98.
- Share folders from the Windows Explorer with other computers running Windows 98 by assigning the access type.
- Configure a local printer as a shared printer to enable other users to have access to the printer.
- Install a network printer.
- Configure the Browse Master setting.
- Enable remote administration on a remote computer to administer shared resources.
- Connect to a remote computer.
- Identify the users who are accessing the shared folders of a computer from a remote computer.
- Share a folder on a remote computer by using Net Watcher.

Minimum Requirements
The CDROM version of this course requires:
- At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
- Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
- At least 8MB RAM.
- At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
- At least a double speed CDROM drive.
- An MPC compliant sound card with attached speakers or headphones is recommended (Currently only the CDROM version supports audio).
- At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
- Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
- At least 8MB RAM and 22MB available hard disk space or file server space.
- At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
