Description

This is the fourth course in a five part series that will help students prepare for the Microsoft Certified Professional exam 70-152, Designing and Implementing Web Solutions with Microsoft Visual InterDev 6.0. At the completion of this course, students will learn to work with database records and identify the methods of managing recordset size; identify the components of Remote Data Services (RDS); identify the methods of navigating and manipulating data by using the components of Remote Data Services (RDS); create a COM component in Visual Basic 6; and register a component in Visual InterDev.

Audience

This course series is designed for site developers who perform architectural planning, technology selection, or Web site programming tasks. This series will help students prepare for the Microsoft Certified Professional exam 70-152, Designing and Implementing Web Solutions with Microsoft Visual InterDev 6.0. Participants should have completed the first three courses in the series.

Unit 1: ActiveX Data Objects (ADO)

  • Identify the components of Universal Data Access.
  • Match the Microsoft Data Access Components with their functions.
  • Match the ActiveX Data Objects (ADO) with their functions.
  • Write the code to establish a database connection with a data source by using a Connection object.
  • Write the code to retrieve records from a database by using the Open method of the Recordset object.
  • Write the code to retrieve records from a database by using the Execute method of the Command object.
  • Write the code to execute a stored procedure that accepts parameters by using the Execute method of the Command object.
  • Write the code to create a subprocedure to navigate through the records in a Recordset by using the Recordset navigation methods.

  • Create a stored procedure to retrieve database data by using Microsoft ISQL_w of Microsoft SQL Server 6.5.
  • Create a trigger to implement a business rule by using Microsoft ISQL_w of Microsoft SQL Server 6.5.
  • Write the ADO code to retrieve data from a table by using the Execute Direct model.
  • Write the ADO code to retrieve data from a table by using the Prepare and Execute model.
  • Write the ADO code to retrieve data from a table by using the Stored Procedure model.
  • Create a membership site in ASP by using ADO.
  • Write the code to retrieve data from a table by using a server-side cursor.

Unit 3: Remote Data Services (RDS)

  • Write the code to create a remote business object instance by using the CreateObject method of RDS.DataSpace.
  • Deploy a Web application containing COM components by using the Visual InterDev Project Explorer window.

Minimum Requirements

The CDROM version of this course requires:

  • At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
  • Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
  • At least 8MB RAM.
  • At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
  • At least a double speed CDROM drive.
  • An MPC compliant sound card with attached speakers or headphones is recommended (Currently, only the CDROM version supports audio).
The network version of this course requires:
  • At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
  • Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
  • At least 8MB RAM and 22MB available hard disk space or file server space.
  • At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
