Learners should be able to develop Java programs, develop CGI programs, identify hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) methods, and produce HTML Web pages.

Prerequisites

(Currently no course prerequisite information)

Objective

  • Identify how to configure a servlet context, define the state of a servlet context, retrieve information, and send multimedia content.
  • Identify HTML information, create a formprocessing solution, and implement session tracking by developing Web shopping servlets by using sessions and cookies.

Topics Include

Unit 1: Exchanging Information

  • Match the configuration options of a servlet context with their purposes.
  • Configure a URI path prefix by using JWS 2.0 Administration Tool.
  • Configure a servlet alias by using JWS 2.0 Administration Tool.
  • Configure a URI mapping for a servlet by using JWS 2.0 Administration Tool.
  • Configure the init parameter for a servlet by using JWS 2.0 Administration Tool.
  • Configure a MIME type for a servlet by using JWS 2.0 Administration Tool.
  • Identify the code for initializing the state of a servlet context.
  • Identify the code for accessing the state of a servlet context.
  • Identify the code for changing the state of a servlet context.
  • Match the benefits of using a servlet instead of a CGI application in retrieving information with the specified situations.
  • Complete the code to retrieve information about a server in a specified situation.
  • Complete the code to retrieve information about a client in a specified situation.

  • Identify the code for implementing server push to return multiple pages to a client.
  • Complete the code for sending compressed content to a client.

Unit 2: Developing HTTP Servlets

  • Identify the elements of a servlet response structure in a specified situation.
  • Match HTTP response headers with the corresponding situations in which they are used.
  • Complete the code used to send a normal response to a client in a specified situation.
  • Complete the code for sending HTML information by using a persistent connection.
  • Complete the code for generating HTML information by using an HTML generation package.
  • Complete the code used to redirect a client request in a specified situation.
