Description
This course presents students with both theoretical and practical instruction on basic network concepts and terminology, including the networking capabilities of Windows and network protocol configuration. This course also covers concepts relating to the Internet and how to set up a system for Internet access.
Audience
This is an entry-level audience that want to pass the A+ Core Hardware (2003) Examination or that have a strong interest in operating system technologies. Participants come from a broad spectrum of experience. Typical job roles may include IT professional or PC service technician. Basic skills acquired in the early stages of on-the-job training as a service technician are a pre-requisite of this course.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- differentiate between network types based on operating systems (OSs).
- match options available when configuring a network adapter with their functions.
- identify advantages of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
- sequence the steps to establish a dial-up connection.
- identify features of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL).
- identify characteristics of Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN).
- identify functions and features of an Internet Connection Firewall (ICF).
- enable Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) on an Internet connection.
- identify troubleshooting functions of Ipconfig and Winipcfg.

Unit 3: Configuring Network Components
- Identify functions and features of an Internet Connection Firewall (ICF).
- Enable Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) on an Internet connection.
- Identify troubleshooting functions of Ipconfig and Winipcfg.
- Identify troubleshooting functions of Packet Inte-Network Groper (PING) and tracert.
- Identify functions of NSLOOKUP as a troubleshooting utility.
- Identify options on the Sharing tab in the Properties dialog box of a folder.
- Match share permissions with their functions.
- Identify options for sharing a printer.

Minimum Requirements
The CDROM version of this course requires:
- At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
- Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
- At least 8MB RAM.
- At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
- At least a double speed CDROM drive.
- An MPC compliant sound card with attached speakers or headphones is recommended (Currently, only the CDROM version supports audio).
The network version of this course requires:
- At least a 486DX 33Mhz CPU.
- Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher and a Microsoft compatible mouse.
- At least 8MB RAM and XXMB available hard disk space or file server space.
- At least VGA graphics capability with a minimum 512K video RAM (1MB video RAM recommended).
