Description

This course presents students with both theoretical and practical instruction on basic network concepts and terminology, including the networking capabilities of Windows and network protocol configuration. This course also covers concepts relating to the Internet and how to set up a system for Internet access.

Audience

This is an entry-level audience that want to pass the A+ Core Hardware (2003) Examination or that have a strong interest in operating system technologies. Participants come from a broad spectrum of experience. Typical job roles may include IT professional or PC service technician. Basic skills acquired in the early stages of on-the-job training as a service technician are a pre-requisite of this course.

Objective

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• differentiate between network types based on operating systems (OSs).
• match options available when configuring a network adapter with their functions.
• identify advantages of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
• sequence the steps to establish a dial-up connection.
• identify features of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL).
• identify characteristics of Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN).
• identify functions and features of an Internet Connection Firewall (ICF).
• enable Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) on an Internet connection.
• identify troubleshooting functions of Ipconfig and Winipcfg.
