This course is an introduction to the IBM OS/390 integrated network operational environment. OS/390 presents all the elements of the S/390 system in one integrated package. This course provides a brief background to mainframe systems, and describes the basic functional areas of the OS/390 environment. The course describes the evolution of OS/390 from IBM's original MVS system and provides a brief history of UNIX. It also details the functionality for developing programs for both MVS and UNIX services. The CICS Transaction Server and transaction processing is covered as well as platforms for distributed computing, file sharing, Web enablement and LAN services. The course describes OS/390's Softcopy Services and the BookManager system for creating and reading online books and the various system management and security tools included in OS/390. This course is written to OS/390 Version 2.x. This course is designed for system programmers, operators, managers, system support personnel, and application programmers.
