This course is an overview of IBM's DB2 mainframe relational database management system. It explains basic functions, features and elements of DB2 for OS/390 (known simply as DB2) and its interactions with the MVS environment. The course briefly reviews the development of DB2, including enhancements to Version 6, DB2 Universal Database for OS/390. It then familiarizes the student with the basic elements of the DB2 database management system, from both a conceptual and physical perspective. The discussion includes significant characteristics of relational databases, DB2 database objects, and common SQL that is run in a relational database management environment. The course ""walks"" the student through basic functions: setting up and maintaining a database, and accessing DB2 data interactively and through applications. Finally, it covers the fundamentals of database management, including security, data control and recovery, and monitoring the system. This course is written to OS/390 2.x and DB2 Universal Dat Designed for managers and technical professionals who are implementing a data warehouse using DB2. Technical professionals will find hints for designing and tuning DB2 in a data warehouse environment.
