Advanced Story Writers Workshop from Writers Online Workshops

Short Stories

Training Provided by F+W Publications, Inc. Students who have previously completed a fiction writing class or workshop can receive feedback from a published short story writer and experience the support and encouragement of an online critique group. At the completion of this workshop, you will have written and received feedback on four original short stories of up to 3,000 words each. Throughout the workshop you will be able to participate in asynchronous discussion with the instructor and the class in Lecture Hall, unmoderated students-only discussion in the Student Union, and group critique sessions with other workshop members in the Critics Corner. There is no set outline for this workshop, since the focus will be on writing and critiquing. The workshop will consist of four two-week sessions. At the beginning of each session, each student will submit a story of up to 3,000 words to the instructor for review and for group critique. There will be no lectures, reading assignments or exercises for this workshop, but you will receive plenty of tips and reminders along the way. Plus, you will have full access to the Library and the Brain Spa for all the supplemental materials and creative exercises. Because you will be expected to submit your work at the beginning of each session, you should have your first 3,000-word story submission prepared prior to the class start date.
