Presentation Skills

Overview: This two-day workshop focuses on improving your ability to communicate in a public forum. The proposed format makes use of a variety of instructional techniques to provide opportunities for individual work, large and small group involvement as well as mini-lectures and video-taping participants.

Note: The outline of the program is a suggestion for increasing skills in a number of areas, including introductions, speeches, impromptu speaking and presentations. This course will be modified to fit the requirements of the group participating.

Note: This course may require more than one facilitator, depending on the size of the group. This allows small breakout groups to be video taped numerous times throughout the program.

Objectives: By the end of the workshop participants should be able to:

Assess their audience
Select and narrow a topic
Determine the purpose of the presentation
Develop an outline
Use presentation aids
Demonstrate effective non-verbal communication
Identify several techniques to control nervousness
Understand the importance of practice

Note: Participants should be prepared to be video taped throughout the program (as many as 6-8 times). Each member of the group will leave with their own video tape showing the marked improvement throughout the two days.
