Public Speaking Programme
The main emphasis of this entire programme is on sharpening your thinking skills. Effective public speaking is based not on your language skills but on your ability to think- to think rationally on your feet - while never losing sight of audience or your objective.
This is a practical, hands-on style of learning. Participants should be thinking, discussing and speaking far more than the trainer. While, in the course of the programme, the trainer will indeed give specific mind frames for making an effective speech, the focus will be on guiding trainees into an analysis of what they have to do, so that, at some stage, they can develop their own unique style, if they so wish, and develop their own styles. In other words, the solution sought is permanent, not just for the period of training.
Every day and in every class, every student speaks to the audience at least twice - and sometimes as many as 20 times. No wonder facing the audience becomes a matter of habit. For the same reason, almost throughout the programme, very little writing is permitted. Every student has to learn to listen, discuss, question and assimilate, before speaking in public.
In spite of the time constraints, this programme will cover all those critical elements and skills, which are to be mastered to become an effective public speaker. The major topics are given below. More detailed descriptions of each topic are provided in the following page:
1. Critical factors before speaking
2. Explaining a concept or idea
3. Informative Presentations (identifying a topic; presenting events and historical facts)
4. Persuasive Presentations (identifying the belief statement )
5. Structure for a presentation
