ITS250 - Linux/Unix Fundamentals
Course description
The Introduction to UNIX course will teach you how to use the basic functionality of a Unix or Linux system. These skills can be applicable to virtually all UNIX and Linux distributions. The course demystifies most of the major concepts and principles of Unix operation and the role the shell plays in interfacing with the operating system. We will discuss the file system and explore file, directory and data manipulation utilities. We also take a close look at file editing commands, as well as basic uses of the shell, including a brief introduction to shell scripts (command or batch files) and how to use them to automate repetitive tasks.

Prerequisites
Little or no working knowledge of the UNIX or Linux environments.

Using UNIX Utilities
Using diff and find, Regular expressions, Performing searches using a variety of Unix tools, spell checking and text formatting commands
Exploring the X windows Environment
Graphical Desktop layout, Utilizing the Start Menu, Customizing the Gnome environment, Using the desktop tools
