INCREASING YOUR PERSONAL IMPACT & FREEING YOUR VOICE
Alan Mars has adapted the self-preparation techniques used by performing artists for use in business & commercial settings. He is an Alexander Technique and voice teacher who has taught in several top London drama and music schools.
Alexander Technique is known as a method for dealing with the aches and strains of modern life - posture, bad backs, stress management. So what possible relationship could it have to presentation skills and using your voice effectively?
Alexander (1869 - 1955) was an actor who suffered from breathing and voice problems. He developed his method out of a seven-year period of self-observation using a three-way system of mirrors; the equivalent of video-feedback today. Alexander returned to the stage free of his vocal and breathing difficulties.
The Alexander Technique has been part and parcel of the actor and musicians training since the late 19th century. It is part of the curriculum in all major music and drama schools throughout the UK, Europe, USA & Australia.
The difference between preparing yourself for a presentation, an acting role or singing a song is really just a question of emphasis. In all major respects the processes are identical. The Alexander Technique can make a major contribution to your rehearsal skills in all these areas and a huge contribution to the quality of your final performance. Alan has taught these skills within many top British companies.
