The goal of this course is to present the learner with a comprehensive introduction to Voice over IP (VoIP), its technology, benefits, QoS issues and their solutions, and standards. The first half of the course covers packet voicing basics, Internet technology, and the benefits and applications of VoIP. It then moves on to cover Gateways and their various functions, major issues involved in bandwidth consumption, and consideration of uses of PCs as phones. The second half of the course covers the transmission standards and protocols in VoIP networks (eg H.323, SIP, G.7xx). It then covers the various Quality of Service (QoA) issues associated with VoIP technology, and the most significant solutions to these QoS issues. The target audience is anyone who wants to remain current in the data and telecommunications industries, including Network Engineers, Network Administrators, Telecommunications Technicians, Data/Internet/Telecommunications Sales Professionals, Telecom Sales Engineers, IP/Data Product Managers, and Telecom Account Managers. It will also be of interest to professionals with general interest in Internet technology and/or those with a particular interest in VoIP technology.
