Designing for Cisco Internetwork Solutions Part 2

Audience

This course is designed for individuals seeking the Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA) certification and those aiming for the CCDP (Cisco Certified Design Professional) certification. The course is also targeted at pre-sales and post-sales network engineers involved in network design planning and implementation.

Objective

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

  • Identify factors to consider when designing an Enterprise Campus.
  • Match types of transmission media with their characteristics.
  • Distinguish between switched Local Area Network (LAN) and shared LAN segmentation technologies.
  • Identify characteristics of Wide Area Network (WAN) technology.
  • Identify considerations for determining application and technical requirements in a Wide Area Network (WAN).
  • Identify considerations for evaluating cost-effectiveness of a Wide Area Network (WAN) design.
  • Topics Include

Unit 1: Basic Campus Switching Design

    • Identify factors to consider when designing an Enterprise Campus.
    • Match types of transmission media with their characteristics.
    • Distinguish between switched Local Area Network (LAN) and shared LAN segmentation technologies.
    • Differentiate between characteristics of network applications.
    • Identify considerations for determining the geography of a network.
    • Identify considerations for deploying L2 and L3 switching designs.
    • Identify considerations for designing an Enterprise Campus network.
    • Identify characteristics of network traffic patterns in an Enterprise Campus network.
    • Identify features of multicast traffic management protocols.
    • Identify characteristics of Qualify of Service (QoS) services implemented on Local Area Network (LAN) switches.
    • Identify access and distribution considerations for Enterprise Campus building design.
    • Differentiate between L2 L3 split L2 and dual-path L3 Enterprise Campus Backbone designs.
    • Identify considerations for designing the Server Farm module.
    • Identify considerations for designing the Edge Distribution module.

Unit 2: Enterprise WAN Design and Implementation

    • Identify characteristics of Wide Area Network (WAN) technology.
    • Identify considerations for determining application and technical requirements in a Wide Area Network (WAN).
    • Identify considerations for evaluating cost-effectiveness of a Wide Area Network (WAN) design.
    • Identify guidelines for implementing a Wide Area Network (WAN) design methodology.
    • Identify considerations for designing remote access networks.
    • Match types of Wide Area Network (WAN) backup technologies with their characteristics.
    • Identify considerations for establishing Wide Area Network (WAN) communication between dispersed Enterprise Edge networks.
    • Distinguish between Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) and Long-Reach Ethernet (LRE) technologies.
    • Identify characteristics of a cable network.
    • Match types of wireless technology with their characteristics.
    • Match Virtual Private Network (VPN) types with their characteristics.
    • Identify methods of connecting noncontiguous private networks over a public IP network with their characteristics.
