At APPS we receive many phone calls about our training classes. We try to answer all of the questions in a timely, courteous and professional way. But the biggest question we get is why are the APPS classes two days and not the simple one day class that most give to receive the Tennessee Handgun Permit.
We value your life and the lives of your family and the people around you and we take into consideration the out come of a deadly force situation and the small amount of training you get. When APPS first came into being I made up my mind that I was going to give the people more that state requirements and give you the best training in the small amount of time we had your attention that was possible.
APPS instructors quickly realized that this was still not enough and we are constantly changing training tactics we teach you from the new tactics instructors have learned in the many instructors classes they attend. This is important for APPS to be able to protect you in an unpleasant courtroom where you may be made out to be the bad guy even if you did everything correctly. APPS teaches you the same tactics and logic as taught to law-enforcement officers. This is done simply because your life is more important to you, as my life or the life of a law enforcement officer any one else to that matter is to them.
There is no way that you can learn what is need to survive before, during and even after the attack in a one day class, or even in APPS two day class. This is the reason that APPS gives you more than the rest and not tries to drag you back to a class that should have been given right the first time. APPS does offer advanced classes that some have tried to copy, but with out the tactics APPS teaches. APPS advanced classes are offered constantly and to all, not just APPS students. These advanced classes are taught nation wide and to law enforcement as well and security officers and citizens.
APPS teaches the common sense tactics that work without all of the hoopla that some try to teach. By teaching the common sense tactics you will be able to understand the methods better than rolling around on the ground and trying to shoot in stupid positions. APPS instructors do not teach and try to impress you with camo fatigues, police uniforms, or military equipment. APPS teaches from the HEART we take the students disabilities and novice skills into account and all are taught the same way, beginners and those who may have been shooting for a while.
Ask your instructor for a resume and then check it out. If your instructor is only NRA safety instructor certified, is or was a law enforcement officer, is or was in the military this alone may not be enough in court at a later date. Look for more after all we are dealing with your life and if your life is not worth a couple of days to learn the correct methods then what is it worth. LOOK IN THE MIRROR AND PUT A VALUE ON WHAT YOU SEE AND THEN ANSWER THE QUESTION; HOW MUCH TRAINING IS ENOUGH.
Remember if you are looking for a quick and easy class, just because you do not have the time or you know guns (or think you do), then you may be looking for a quick and easy grave. Think why law enforcement, security officers and military personnel constantly train. They carry their firearms for the same reason SELF-DEFENSE and they train for the situation in hopes that it never happens. So what is your excuse to not train as your life depended on it. Or do you just want bare minimum because your life is just bare minimum.
Call APPS any time or email us for more information, APPS is here for you and your loved ones and your safety is of the up most importance to the APPS staff.
One area of firearms training that has received a lot of attention recently is the need for training programs that are capable of standing up to later scrutiny in a court of law. The courts are now saying that it is no longer good enough just to say we have training or we were trained. We must be able to prove it and we must make sure the training is proper for the task or situation. In the light of these decisions, it is no longer acceptable the minimum standards were met by attending a training class. Rather, it must be shown that:
The training was necessary as validated by a task analysis.
The persons conducting the training were, in fact, qualified to conduct such training.
Qualifications of those conducting the training were verified.
The training did, in fact, take place and was properly conducted and documented.
The training was state-of-the-art and up-to-date.
Adequate measures of mastery of the subject matter can be documented.
Those who did not satisfactorily learn in the training session have received additional training and
now have adequate mastery of the subject matter.
Close supervision exists to monitor and continually evaluate the student s progress.
Additional and contentious training was offered with the proper tactics and knowledgeable instructors.
CRITICAL ELEMENTS OF A MORERN FIREARMS TRAINING PROGRAM FOR SECURITY AND LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS
Prepare officers for immediate, spontaneous, lethal attacks.
Prepare officers for assaults by multiple threats and uninvolved subjects.
Integrate transitional training from arrest and control techniques, including searching and handcuffing.
Basic training that most officers are injured or killed at short distances.
Basic training on the fact that officers will have limited fine and complex motor control.
Integrate two-person contact and cover teams involved in realistic scenarios.
Emphasize the will to live in all training.
Integrate one-handed firing of a gun, both strong and support hands, including re-loading skills.
Integrate close-quarter drills structured around searching and clearing plus indoor combat tactics.
Emphasize dim or no light situations as much as daylight training.
Integrate moving and moving to cover then shooting, and moving while shooting techniques.
Training programs that do not include the elements outlined above may not be preparing officers for the types of situations they will encounter on the street. The consequences are very obvious.
