Assertive Communication
Communication
In our Assertiveness a Communication Skill Workshop, we identify three major factors that keep us from communicating assertively (rank, intimidation, fear of change). We explore the current communication style of your organization to identify how this style influences day-to-day working relationships. Does your organization encourage free communication or reward the passive yes man/woman? Are your co-workers, teammates, and customers adversely affected by ineffective, passive communication?
Use a Personal Communication Style Profile to rank your level of communication assertiveness and passivity. Then, learn four techniques to say what you mean and mean what you say in a direct, non-intimidating manner. Assertive communication is direct, credible, respectful, and shows personal confidence. Learn how to use I statements, positive words and word associations, personal territory or space, and non-verbal body language to communicate effectively and assertively.
